Using Feedback

Feedback is more than your grade

Feedback is more than the marks associated with assignments and portfolios. Using feedback is an essential part of your learning process and should help you progress. You receive the following feedback on your assignments and portfolios:

Written individualised feedback, organised in a proforma of main headings (understanding, argumentation, structure, use of sources and examples, writing, and presentation)

A grade set according to the assessment criteria listed as an appendix to the Study Guide (doc) (1mb).

Creating an action list

Look on feedback as constructive, even if it appears to be critical of your performance. To make the most effective use of the feedback your tutor has given you, use it to build on your strengths and address areas for improvement.

Read comments carefully and make sure you understand what is said.

 Keep notes about key points.

Compare your personalised feedback against the generic advice given in the study guide and the skill packs.

Use the assessment criteria grid (at the back of the Study Guide) to identify what you need to do to reach a higher standard.

When you get the feedback on your next assignments, compare it to see what has changed and what has not changed yet.

Before submitting a new assignment, re-read previous feedback and notes that you made about it.

Recognise your strengths, but create and action plan based on feedback, guidance notes and your assessment of what needs to be done.
